November 11 in Warsaw – changes on the streets

Tuesday, November 11th, marks another anniversary of Poland regaining its independence. Central state ceremonies will be held at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Piłsudski Square. There will also be other historical and cultural events, as well as gatherings and marches. On this day, the best way to get around the capital is by public transport, especially the metro, SKM (Fast Urban Rail), and Koleje Mazowieckie (Masovian Railways).

All changes in public transport will be available on-line at websiteand in social media Warsaw Public Transport.

Independence Capitol and Assembly

On Monday, November 10, soldiers will organize a "Castle of Independence" in Piłsudski Square. From 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM, the square, between Ossolińskich and Królewska Streets, will be closed to traffic. Public gatherings will also be held in Piłsudski Square and surrounding streets. Buses operating in the area will be detoured.

Celebrations, "Common Independence" and other events

The ceremonial changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier will be the focal point of the National Independence Day celebrations. On Tuesday, November 11, the streets surrounding Piłsudski Square will be closed from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Nearby, on Krakowskie Przedmieście, attractions will await "Common Independence" Festival„.Between 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM, traffic from Nowy Świat to Trębacka may be suspended.

Record-breaking Independence Run

The 35th Independence Run will begin promptly at 11:11 a.m. Competitors will set off from the intersection of Jana Pawła II Avenue and Stawki Street. They will run towards Mokotów – first along Jana Pawła II Avenue, then Chałubińskiego Street and Niepodległości Avenue. Streets along the race route will be closed from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Jana Pawła II Avenue from the Zgrupowania AK "Radosław" roundabout to Anielewicza Street will be closed from 3:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Independence March

The Independence March will take place from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The route will lead from Dmowski Roundabout along Aleje Jerozolimskie to the grounds of the PGE National Stadium.

Marszałkowska Street will be closed from Żurawia Street to Świętokrzyska Street, and Jerozolimskie Avenue from Emilii Plater Street to the Poniatowski Bridge. During the event, police may also close Wisłostrada Street between Ludna Street and the Śląsko-Dąbrowski Bridge. Trams and buses will be detoured.

The best way to get to the center is by metro or train

Drivers should avoid the very center of Warsaw. We encourage you to use the metro, SKM (Fast Urban Rail), and Koleje Mazowieckie (Masovian Railways) trains. On Tuesday, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., the metro will run more frequently than usual. Tram lines 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 23, 24, 28, 33 and 77 as well as buses 102, 106, 107, 108, 111, 116, 117, 118, 119, 123, 125, 127, 128, 131, 135, 138, 146, 147, 151, 157, 158, 159, 162, 166, 167, 168, 174, 175, 178, 180 will run differently. 185, 190, 202, 409, 500, 502, 503, 507, 509, 514, 517, 520, ,521, 525, N12, N13, N46, N62 and N63. Tram line 22 and buses 126 and 160 will not run on these routes.
