78th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising – changes in traffic and communication

The 78th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising is upon us. From July 30 to August 6, ceremonies and various events commemorating the Warsaw Uprising will be held throughout the capital. Changes to traffic and parking will be introduced for the purpose of organizing them. Special bus and tram lines will also be launched.


Saturday, July 30, 11:00 AM

The Warsaw Uprising anniversary celebrations will traditionally begin with a meeting of the President of the Republic of Poland and the President of Warsaw with participants of the uprising. In connection with the event, from Friday, July 29, from 6:00 p.m. to Saturday, July 30, until 2:00 p.m., a ban on stopping and parking will be introduced on both sides of Przyokopowa Street – along the entire length of the Museum wall – along with a sign informing about the possibility of towing the vehicle at the owner's expense. The ban will not apply to cars with the "ORGANIZER" sign. Passenger cars and taxis transporting war veterans with invitations will be allowed to stop temporarily.


Saturday, July 30, 8:30 PM

  1. The Warsaw Uprising Run is an integral part of the anniversary celebrations. Participants in the 10-kilometer competition will run along a route from Krasiński Square, Miodowa, Senatorska, Wierzbowa, Moliera, Piłsudskiego Square, Królewska, Krakowskie Przedmieście, Karowa, Browarna, Topiel, Kruczkowskiego, Rozbrat, Górnośląska, Solec, Wioślarska, Ludna, Solec, Dobra, Karowa, Wybrzeże Kościuszkowskie, Wybrzeże Gdańskie to Sanguszki Street and the finish line located in the area of Konwiktorska Street. The streets along the route will be temporarily closed to traffic between 8:00 PM and 11:00 PM.


Sunday, July 31st

Throughout Sunday, July 31, a ban on stopping and parking (along with a sign informing about the possibility of removing the vehicle at the owner's expense) will be in force on Krasiński Square and its surroundings. This is related to the Field Mass and the Roll Call of the Fallen, which will be held there. The ban will be introduced on the following streets:

  • Długa – on both sides of the road – on the section from Miodowa Street to Kilińskiego Street, from Miodowa Street to Barokowa Street, as well as on the side of Krasiński Square from Kilińskiego Street to Freta Street (excluding vehicles with a pass and taxis transporting war veterans);
  • Bonifraterska – on both sides of the street – from ul. Długa to Świętojerska;
  • Świętojerska – on both sides – from ul. Bonifraterska to Wałowa (excluding MZA buses and MTON specialized transport).

Additionally, on Sunday, July 31, a traffic ban will be introduced on the following streets:

  • Długa – on the section from ul. Miodowa to ul. Kilińskiego, from 12.00 to midnight;
  • Miodowa and Bonifraterska – from Kapucyńska Street to Świętojerska Street, from 17.00 to midnight;
  • Miodowa – right lane, on the Krasiński Square side, from 12:00 to midnight.

Buses 116, 178, 180, 503, 518 and N44 operating in this area will be diverted to detours. The changes will last from approximately 12:00 to midnight.

Monday, August 1st – Traffic changes

Ceremonies at the monument of Fighting Mokotów - 1944 in Dreszera Park. After the stationary part of the event, participants will walk along Puławska to Dworkowa streets to the Obelisk of Remembrance of Home Army Soldiers - Mokotów Insurgents. This may result in changes to the routes of buses 141, 172 and 222.

Ceremonies in front of the monument of Gen. S. Rowecki "Grot" on Chopina Street: from the beginning of the day until 2:30 p.m., there will be a ban on stopping on Chopina Street (along with a sign informing about the possibility of taking the vehicle away at the owner's expense).

Anniversary events in front of the monument to the Polish Underground State and Home Army on Matejki Street: from the beginning of the day until 5 p.m. there will be a ban on stopping (together with a sign informing about the possibility of taking the vehicle away at the owner's expense) on the streets:

  • Matejki from Al. Ujazdowskie to Wiejska – including parking bays – with the possibility of parking the organizer's cars, technical services, the bus carrying the standard-bearing personnel and vehicles with a pass;
  • Piękna on the section from Al. Ujazdowskie to Wiejska – with the possibility of stopping by buses carrying war veterans and cars transporting guests.

Between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Matejki Street will be closed to traffic on the section from the entrance to the Canadian Embassy building to Wiejska Street (while ensuring access to the Canadian Embassy), and between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., a traffic ban will also apply to Wiejska Street – from Frascati Street to Piękna Street (with the possibility of entry and stopping of buses transporting insurgents, cars carrying guests, and MTON specialized transport).

Ceremonies in front of the Gloria Victis monument at the Powązki Military Cemetery on Powązkowska Street: from 1 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., the parking lot at the Military Cemetery will be closed to individual traffic (with buses, organizer's vehicles, guest cars with passes, and taxis carrying guests with invitations allowed). From the beginning of the day until 7 p.m., a ban on stopping will be in force in the main cemetery parking lot and at the main gate, as well as in the parking bays on the side of Powązkowska Street (with a sign informing about the possibility of removing the vehicle at the owner's expense) - only cars transporting insurgents and guests will be able to stop. On the other hand, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., Ostrowiecka Street will be closed to cars (with public transport remaining operational, and with the exception of organizer's cars and MTON vehicles).

The celebrations in front of the Fallen Undefeated monument at the Warsaw Insurgents' Cemetery on Wolska Street will begin at 6:30 p.m. Earlier, at 4:30 p.m., a traffic ban will be introduced on the far right lane of Wolska Street (towards Sowińskiego) – buses carrying veterans and guests will be able to park on this lane. The ban will be in effect until approximately 10:00 p.m., i.e. until the end of the Field Mass and the end of the participants' distribution campaign. On Monday, August 1, from the beginning of the day, a parking ban will be introduced on the service street from Wolska Street, on the section from Sowińskiego to the building at 174 Wolska Street (together with a sign informing about the possibility of removing the vehicle at the owner's expense). This ban will be in effect until 11:00 p.m.

From 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., there will be a ban on entering the gravel road leading to the Fallen Undefeated monument from Redutowa Street and on Sowińskiego Street from both sides. Only taxis transporting war veterans with invitations will be allowed to enter Sowińskiego Street.

Musical meeting "Warsaw residents sing (NOT) FORBIDDEN SONGS", at 8:30 p.m. on Piłsudski Square. In connection with the event, a ban on stopping (along with a sign informing about the possibility of removing the vehicle at the owner's expense) will be in force throughout the day on the following streets: Wierzbowa, Focha, Królewska and pl. marsz. J. Piłsudskiego.

From 6:30 p.m. to midnight, the following streets will be closed to traffic: Królewska (from Marszałkowska Street to Krakowskie Przedmieście), Mazowiecka (from Traugutta Street), Wierzbowa (from Niecała Street) and Piłsudskiego Square. Buses of the following lines will be diverted to detours: 106, 107, 111, 128, 175.


Monday, August 1st – special transport

On Monday, August 1, historic trams of line W and buses of lines 912, 922, 944, 970 and 980 will appear on the streets of the capital. They will connect the main points of the city with places celebrating the anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising.

Historic trams will operate on line W between 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on the route: NARUTOWICZA PL. – Grójecka – A. Zawiszy pl. – Towarowa – WARSAW UPRISING MUSEUM – Towarowa – Okopowa – al. “Solidarności” – Wolska – CM. WOLSKI.

Five bus lines will also be launched:

912 one-way route: POWĄZKI–MILITARY CENTRE – Powązkowska – Okopowa – Towarowa – Prosta – Kasprzaka – Wolska – Fort Wola – MILITARY CENTRE WOLSKI;

922: POWĄZKI-MILITARY CENTRE – Powązkowska – Krasińskiego – Wilson Square – Słowackiego – METRO MARYMONT;

944: CENTRAL DW. – Emilii Plater – Świętokrzyska – Marszałkowska – Bankowy Square – al. “Solidarności” – Okopowa – Powązkowska – POWAZKI-CM. MILITARY

970: EASTERN (KIEVSKA) DW. – Kijowska – Targowa – al. “Solidarności” – Śląsko-Dąbrowski Bridge – al. “Solidarności” – Okopowa – Powązkowska – POWAZKI-CM. WOJSKOWY

980: THREE CROSSES PLACE – Trzech Krzyży Square – Nowy Świat – Krakowskie Przedmieście – Miodowa – Senatorska – Bankowy Square – Nowolipki – Zamenhofa – Anielewicza (return: Anielewicza – Gen. Andersa) – Okopowa – Powązkowska – POWĄZKI-MILITARY CAMP.

Buses of line 912 will run from 17.30 to 20.00, and other lines from 14.30 to 21.00.

On bus lines 912, 922, 944, 970, 980 and tram line W, the normal ZTM tariff applies.


Friday, August 5th

A ceremony in tribute to the civilian population of Wola at the monument to the memory of 50 thousand residents of Wola murdered by the Germans during the Warsaw Uprising in 1944 at the intersection of Leszno Street and "Solidarności" Avenue. From the beginning of the day until 7:30 p.m., there will be a ban on stopping (with a sign informing about the possibility of removing the vehicle at the owner's expense) on the sidewalk and in the bay at Wyszyński Square on the section from the intersection with Leszno Street, on the left side towards Żytnia Street. The ban will not apply to guest cars, taxis dropping off veterans, or vehicles with "ORGANIZER" signs.

Additionally, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Leszno Street, on the section from al. "Solidarności" to Wyszyński Square, will be closed to traffic. During this time, bus lines 190 heading towards the Znana loop will bypass the closed section by taking al. "Solidarności" and Młynarska.

Immediately after the ceremony at the monument, the March of Remembrance in honor of the civilian victims of the Warsaw Uprising will begin. Its participants will walk along Leszno, Okopowa, al. "Solidarności", Wolska and Redutowa streets to the Warsaw Uprising Park. During the event, i.e. between 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., there may be temporary traffic disruptions.


Saturday, August 6

On Saturday, August 6, the Masa Powstańcza bicycle ride will take place along the trail of the AK "Golski" battalion. Participants in the event will gather in front of the Warsaw Uprising Museum and then set off on a route along the following streets: Przyokopowa, Grzybowska, Towarowa, Rondo Daszyńskiego, Towarowa, Zawiszy Square, Raszyńska, Koszykowa, Plac Konstytucji, Śniadeckich, Plac Politechniki, Lwowska, Koszykowa, Noakowskiego, Plac Politechniki, Polna, Waryńskiego, Rondo Jazdy Polskiej, Waryńskiego, Nowowiejska, Plac Zbawiciela, Marszałkowska, Plac Konstytucji, Marszałkowska, Rondo Dmowskiego, Marszałkowska, Świętokrzyska, Rondo ONZ, Prosta, Rondo Daszyńskiego, Prosta and Przyokopowa. The event starts at 5:00 p.m. On the streets where cyclists will be traveling, there may be temporary traffic disruptions due to the passage of the bicycle convoy.

Additionally, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., a two-way stopping ban will apply on Przyokopowa Street (with a sign informing about the possibility of removing the vehicle at the owner's expense) - excluding vehicles with the "ORGANIZER" sign. Then, from 2:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Przyokopowa Street will be closed to car traffic - except for those with the "Organizer" sign.
