8th edition of the participatory budget – results!

Warsaw residents have chosen how they want to spend PLN 93 million from the 2022 civic budget. A total of 348 projects, whose originators are the residents of the capital, will be implemented.

– The civic budget is all about people. I would like to thank the authors of the projects for submitting their ideas. I am glad that Warsaw has so many engaged residents, that you want to change the capital with us, that you are interested in your city and that you will use with satisfaction what will be created in it thanks to you. – said the Mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski.

From June 15 to 30, Warsaw residents voted on the ideas submitted as part of the 8th edition of the participatory budget for 2022. In this way, they decided how to allocate money from the Warsaw budget. A total of 1,429 projects were put to the vote of residents, including 129 citywide proposals and 1,300 district ones. The results were announced at Thursday's gala at the Palace of Culture and Science.

Winning projects
The projects that will be implemented concern various areas of urban life, but this year the vast majority of Warsaw residents submitted ideas related to urban greenery, e.g. planting trees, shrubs, hedges, fruit trees, tearing up old concrete and changing to biologically active surfaces.

The most expensive city-wide project voted on this year is New bike paths and as much as PLN 5,609,539 will be allocated for it, while the district council is Breathing pavements on Puławska Street, which will cost 1,500,000 PLN. On the other hand, the greatest support from residents was enjoyed by another city-wide project – Large trees in Warsaw - greenery, shade and clean air – as many as 33,795 people voted for him.

As part of the civic budget, a new sports and recreation area will be created in Sowiński Park in Wola, an outdoor forest cinema in Wawer, a salt graduation tower in Natolin, and a trampoline park in Praga-Północ. And one of the winning city-wide projects is Let's repay the insurgents and provide them with home rehabilitation.

Statistics
In total, Warsaw residents cast 93,539 votes, of which 99.4% were submitted electronically. The most popular age groups were 25-34 and 35-44.

The largest number of ideas implemented under the participatory budget will be in the Bemowo district, as many as 34, followed by 24 in Żoliborz, 23 in Ursus, 22 in Targówek, and 18 in Praga-Południe, where as many as 4,446 votes were cast for the district project. We will defeat smog with greenery – new trees, shrubs and flowers for Praga-Południe.

So far, Warsaw has held its 7th edition of the participatory budget. Residents have decided to allocate over PLN 400 million.
