Free travel with the Student Card

Warsaw primary school students travel free of charge on Warsaw Public Transport with the Student Card. Applications can now be submitted for cards for first-grade students and for their extension for students in grades 4-7.

What is a Student Card?

Since 2017, students of Warsaw primary schools and children living in Warsaw but studying in neighboring towns have not paid for travel on Warsaw Public Transport. These rights are confirmed by the Student Card issued – through schools – by the Public Transport Authority.

With the Student Card, you can travel free of charge on Warsaw Public Transport in both ticket zones and – as part of the “ZTM-KM-WKD Joint Ticket” offer – on Koleje Mazowieckie and Warszawska Kolej Dojazdowa trains. Thanks to this, children and young people travel “on the card” not only to school and home, but can also go on a longer trip.

First grade students will receive their Student Cards in September. Students in older grades (4-7) must exchange theirs for new ones, because their cards expire at the end of this school year.

How to obtain or extend the validity of a Student Card?

An application for a Student Card or to extend its validity can be submitted online. From the school that the child attends or will attend, parents or guardians receive a link to a website where an application form is filled in. There are two documents to choose from - for a card for a first-grader or for its extension for a student in grades 4-7.

To submit an application, you need a current ID photo of your child taken in portrait orientation on a uniform, light background. The photo should be in JPG or PNG format, with a minimum resolution of 200×259 pixels, and the file size cannot exceed 2 MB. In the case of extending the validity of the card, you should also have the number of the current Student Card ready.

After completing and sending the application, you will receive an email confirming that you have submitted the document. The completed card will be delivered to the school, and the facility will notify you about the possibility of collecting it.

What if a child attends a school near Warsaw?

If a child lives in Warsaw but starts or continues education in a school located in a neighboring town, the card can be issued or its validity extended in Passenger Service Point.

Please bring with you:

  • filled application for issuing a personalized Warsaw City Card (in the case of children for whom it will be the first Student Card)
  • a current ID photo (3.5 x 4.5 cm) of the child
  • a valid school ID (indicating the student’s residential address) or a certificate issued by the school (indicating the student’s residential address and information about the child’s attendance at the school in a given school year) and a document confirming the child’s identity.

Unique places in Warsaw

Children and young people will receive Student Cards with unique designs prepared – as part of a competition organized by the capital city of Warsaw – by Zosia from the Bielany school and Kacper from the school in Ursus.

Zosia “invites” in the evening – during a beautiful sunset – to the Vistula River near the Mermaid monument and the Świętokrzyski Bridge. In the background, the city is getting ready to sleep, both its left bank with the Palace of Culture and Science towering over it, and the right bank – with the PGE National Stadium and charming tenement houses on Saska Kępa.

Kacper highlighted popular places and monuments in his work, which are the capital's calling cards. On the card, we can find, grouped along the Vistula, among others: the Royal Castle, Zygmunt's Column, the Złota 44 skyscraper, the Warsaw Zoo and the PGE National Stadium.
