More PESEL numbers for Ukrainian citizens in Warsaw

The issuance of PESEL numbers for refugees from Ukraine arriving in the capital is underway. Yesterday, a total of 2,680 were issued at the National Stadium and at district points. The number of people from Ukraine who register at the Warsaw employment agency on Marszałkowska Street is also growing.

Ukrainian refugees have been able to apply for a PESEL number since March 16 of this year. A total of 9,670 numbers have been issued in Warsaw so far. Yesterday, it was possible to complete all formalities both at 18 district points and at the point that opened last weekend at the PGE Narodowy. Thanks to this, 2,680 people obtained PESEL numbers on Monday.

There are currently around 50 stations at the stadium, staffed by officials from the capital city hall. Government officials also help fill out applications there. A significant number of city employees also accept applications at district offices. All PESEL number assignment points are open from 8:00 to 16:00.

PESEL will be needed to obtain social benefits, full health care, and will also help with employment. It can be obtained by people who have arrived on the territory of Poland directly from the territory of Ukraine since February 24, 2022 in connection with military operations conducted in Ukraine. The application must be accompanied by, among others:

  • a paper application submitted in person, signed legibly by hand, completed by the applicant,
  • a document confirming the identity or a statement under penalty of criminal liability regarding the personal data of the person and the crossing of the Ukrainian-Polish border,
  • e-mail address and mobile phone number – to assign a trusted profile and e-identity.
  • photograph that meets certain parameters.

According to estimates, about 300 thousand people fleeing Ukraine. Warsaw officials constantly remind that not everyone has to apply for a PESEL number right away. All Ukrainians who have arrived in Poland since February 24 can obtain it in the following days or weeks.

Warsaw employment agency

Since March 15, at ul. Marszałkowska 77/79, the Ukrainian Citizens' Service Point of the District Labor Office of the Capital City of Warsaw has been operating. So far, over 260 people have registered through it. Yesterday alone, there were 64 people, and almost half of them used the office's job placement services on the same day.

Since the point was launched, approximately 90 job offers have been presented only from among those available at the office, as well as from those available on the market. Employers wishing to employ Ukrainian citizens can do so themselves or submit a job offer to the office.

Help in various forms

The city is still continuing its previous assistance to Ukrainian refugees. So far, Warsaw volunteers have provided support to 200,000 people. Since the beginning of the war, over 38,000 refugees have taken advantage of the offer of accommodation or stay in places prepared by the capital, and over 900 Ukrainian patients have been admitted to Warsaw hospitals. 2,930 people have also used the medical points that operate at information points and places of residence for refugees.

The number of Ukrainian students in the capital's schools and kindergartens is also growing. Currently, there are over 10,000 students there. Warsaw is creating preparatory classes for them in its institutions - currently there are over 100 such classes in over 60 schools. In addition to education, children and young people from Ukraine are also provided with food and psychological support.
