3x3 Basketball World Championship in Warsaw
In 2026, Warsaw will become the world capital of 3x3 basketball – a dynamic, street version of the discipline – hosting the senior women's and men's world championships. Since its debut at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, 3x3 has been winning the hearts of fans and revolutionizing the world of sports with its speed, intensity and unique character.
- In June 2026, Warsaw will host huge sports emotions in the form of 3x3 basketball. The best national teams, both women's and men's, will fight for world championship medals under the Palace of Culture and Science! Warsaw has already proven that it can organize great tournaments. Now it's time for something new. It's time for Warsaw to become the host of the most important 3x3 tournament in the world. – said Renata Kaznowska, Deputy Mayor of Warsaw.
The 3x3 World Championship is not just a sporting fight for gold – it is a festival of energy, youth and urban lifestyle. The capital will transform into a global centre of street sports, attracting crowds, promoting a healthy and active lifestyle, inspiring young people. In front of the Palace of Culture and Science there will be a competition arena with additional attractions for both older and younger sports enthusiasts.
- Poland and Warsaw are not a random choice. Polish athletes with their successes have become one of the pioneers of the new 3x3 basketball in Europe. I promise the women of Warsaw that in 2026 we will bring here the best city basketball in the world! – said Andreas Zagklis, Secretary General of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).
Poles among the best
The Polish national 3x3 basketball teams have been among the world leaders in this sport for years and have had considerable success. The men's team has played at the Olympic Games twice (in Tokyo and Paris), and has also won bronze medals at the World Championships in 2019, at the European Championships in 2021 and at the European Games in 2023, as well as gold at the U-23 World Championships in 2022. The women's team won bronze at the European Championships in 2022, and silver at the U-23 World Championships in 2023.
- 3×3 basketball originates from the popular streetball, and is now a serious Olympic sport. What's more, due to its spectacular nature, it is becoming increasingly popular. For several years now, we have had considerable success in this sport, and our teams, both women's and men's, are developing dynamically. We are glad that the highest-ranking event, the world championship, will come to Warsaw. The modern capital of the country will be the perfect place for this tournament. – said Grzegorz Bachański, President of the Polish Basketball Association.
