What's new at the Copernicus Science Centre
A new island has been discovered in the Pacific Ocean! It is five times larger than Poland and is made entirely of plastic. Mount Everest is the world's highest mountain of… garbage. By the end of 2018, 16 tons of waste had been collected from it. A similar amount of waste lies on the beach of the small, uninhabited Henderson Island.
We are drowning in garbage. Landfills larger than urban areas are growing all around us. Plastic particles float in the air and swim in the oceans. Even in outer space, the inglorious traces of our activities drift.
