Safety meeting

Safety is one of the frequently mentioned advantages of Warsaw, and although the vast majority of people living in or visiting our city feel safe here, there are situations that must be firmly prevented. These are problems that affect many cities around the world.

The meeting was attended by city guides, travel agencies and tourism organizers.

The initiative came from the guides, and WOT invited representatives of PIT (Vice President and head of the Mazowieckie Branch) and Dariusz Psądek, Inspector of the Police Headquarters, who presented the functionality National Security Threat Map and answered all questions asked during the meeting.

To sum up the meeting, WOT proposed:

– Guides testing the safety app,
– invitation to the next meeting of representatives of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, the City Guard, the City of Warsaw and other entities needed to solve problematic issues,
– consulting solutions that other cities in Poland have implemented to improve safety.

The next meeting will be organized by WOT in October. The place and date of the meeting will be indicated in the working correspondence.

 

Among the problematic issues (other than the categories presented on the security threat map) reported were:

  1. The need for change ZTM regulations – possibility of stopping in designated places, on Nowy Zjazd and Grodzka streets.
  2. Doubts about the possibility of traveling by coach on Nowy Świat.
  3. Doubts about moving around in bus lanes, parking, parking zones, e.g. Skwer Giedroycia.
  4. Consider designating parking spaces for people with disabilities.
  5. The need to monitor places with an increased risk of theft or intention to steal, e.g. Sigismund's Column, Church of the Holy Cross.
  6. The need to introduce a ban on scooters on Castle Square. A ban on riding on sidewalks, introduce regulations regarding the use of vehicles.
  7. The need to introduce regulations for bicycles (the user must know the road traffic regulations).
  8. The need eliminate noise on Krakowskie Przedmieście, as well as points offering gadgets and souvenirs.
  9. The need to eliminate illegal traders souvenirs, including sellers whose products pose a safety risk (tennis rackets tested at Castle Square.
  10. The need to eliminate begging – Castle Square, Old Town Square, Church of the Holy Cross.
  11. The need to prevent thefts (usually committed by young people) in restaurants and tourist lines, e.g. 180, as well as at the Royal Castle during sightseeing on free days.
  12. The need to eliminate cars from the Old Town.
  13. Note (for the Legia Stadium) that renting the Stadium should not result in the occupation of municipal parking.
  14. The need for available information about the opening hours of toilets in the Old Town.
  15. The need to improve the etiquette of people working in places visited by tourists (escalators at Castle Square).

The above list does not include matters reported during the meeting via KMZB.

CONCLUSION– WOT will send a letter to the Warsaw City Council informing about the above problems damaging the image of the city.
– WOT together with PIT will send letters to the Municipal Guard and the Ministry of Interior and Administration regarding:
       – increasing the number of patrols,
       – considering increasing the number of mobile positions for the Police
– The guides (Basia Kotarba) will inform WOT about the date of the meeting set by the city (in connection with the letter they sent regarding safety).
