Health tourism is a rapidly growing phenomenon and a common travel motive worldwide. This phenomenon generates economic growth and employment in both established and emerging tourist destinations.

Western societies increasingly attach importance to a healthy lifestyle, taking care of the balance between work and private life. The desire for self-fulfilment in life is increasingly confronted with the process of demographic aging and a more stressful lifestyle. Health treatments, trips to health resorts, spa-wellness facilities, are the main reason for travel 13% Europeans.

Health tourism is a type of tourism where the primary motivation is to improve physical, mental and/or spiritual health through medical or wellness/spa activities that enhance a person's ability to meet their own needs and function better in their environment and society.

When analyzing the supply of services in Warsaw, the following will be taken into account:

  • Medical tourism aimed at providing specialized medical care.
  • wellness/spa tourism based on treatments using natural remedies and methods of treatment (spas, thermal baths, wellness centres, etc.).

In order to meet the needs of markets such as Germany, Great Britain, Scandinavia and the countries of the Persian Gulf, WOT decided to analyse the supply of medical tourism in Warsaw offered to groups whose motivation for travelling is to take care of and improve their health.

Medical tourism will never be a priority product for Warsaw, but considering the potential demand for this type of service, it may become an offer accompanying the stays of foreign guests in Warsaw, both from the recreational and MICE areas.
