Warsaw to host the international ACHS 2028 conference!
The city of Warsaw has been chosen to host the world’s largest conference of heritage researchers – organised by the Association of Critical Heritage Studies (ACHS) – which will take place in 2028. This decision was made during the last ACHS conference, which took place on 3-6 June 2023 in Galway, Ireland.
The Faculty of Political Science and International Studies of the University of Warsaw, including the newly established UNESCO Chair in Public and Global Management of Intangible Cultural Heritage, will host this prestigious event. The ACHS conference attracts around 600 delegates from all over the world every two years, and its organization in Poland will be the first such event.
Warsaw was selected thanks to the efforts of many people and institutions, including Dr. Hab. Hanna Schreiber from the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies of the University of Warsaw, who for four years coordinated the Intangible Heritage (ICH) Researchers Network within ACHS. The Polish delegation, which presented Warsaw's candidacy, also included Andrzej Jakubowski from the Polish Academy of Sciences, Monika Stobiecka from the Faculty of Artes Liberales of the University of Warsaw, and Paweł Mrowiński from the Promotion Office of the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies of the University of Warsaw.
Dr. Hab. Hanna Schreiber emphasized the importance of the conference as a platform for intensive discussions and exchange of experiences in the field of heritage research. The conference in Warsaw will be organized by Symposium Cracoviense.
The efforts to acquire this event for Poland were also supported by the Warsaw Tourism Organisation/Warsaw Convention Bureau and the Polish Tourism Organisation/Poland Convention Bureau, emphasizing their involvement in promoting Warsaw as a place for scientific and cultural meetings on the international stage.
