Michelin Awards for Warsaw
The selection of establishments distinguished by the world-famous and respected Michelin Guide has ended. Based on verification and assessments by inspectors, 3 restaurants were awarded prestigious "stars", seven received the Bib Gourmand title, and as many as 39 were included in recommendations. The Michelin Plaques award ceremony will take place on June 27 in Poznań.
The introduction to choosing the best, high-standard establishments was the selection of cities, which resulted in the selection of Krakow, Poznan and Warsaw. Then, in accordance with the provisions of the agreement concluded between the Michelin Guide and the Polish Tourism Organization, the inspectors set off to Poland, giving the entire catering industry from the largest Polish cities a chance to show themselves from the best side and find themselves in the elite group of places guaranteeing the highest culinary experiences. The last stage is to sum up and honor the top establishments with prestigious distinctions - Michelin Stars and Bib Gourmand.
– I would like to congratulate the restaurants that have been noticed and distinguished by the Michelin Guide, which naturally become gastronomic ambassadors of Poland. This is an exceptional moment for the Polish brand and its expansion, as well as for the development of this type of tourism on the international market. I believe that the restaurants and chefs will provide guests looking for authentic, yet refined culinary experiences with the best demonstration of Polish hospitality. Their efforts also set the level that the domestic gastronomic scene will strive to match. It is worth noting that, apart from the largest Polish cities, Kościelisko, which has rich culinary traditions in Podhale, has also found recognition. - he admits Secretary of State in the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, Andrzej Gut Mostowy – Plenipotentiary of the President of the Council of Ministers for the promotion of the Polish brand.
The Michelin Guide has been on the market since 1900 and is considered the most important culinary guide in the world. It is number one in terms of sales, history and reputation. In this edition, the Michelin Guide covers 62 regions and cities, 30 of which are located in Europe.
– June 19, 2023 is a significant date for restaurateurs from three cities – Warsaw, Krakow and Poznan. This is a breakthrough moment in the history of Polish gastronomy. The selection of the Michelin Guide 2023 confirmed Poland's membership in the group of countries that care about the heritage of European gastronomic culture. I congratulate all the distinguished restaurateurs, and I address my words of special appreciation to the debutants in the global Michelin family and to the "stars" of Polish gastronomy. Belonging to the Michelin Family is prestigious, but also an obligation to annually verify the gastronomic level of the chef. It is also a great opportunity to exchange experiences through participation in international projects addressed only to distinguished ones. - says president of the Polish Academy of Gastronomy and exclusive partner of the Michelin Guide in Poland, Maciej Dobrzyniecki.
The Red Guide is based on an extensive system of symbols describing each establishment. Additionally, restaurants marked with a star have a list of their three culinary specialties. Michelin uses anonymous inspections to create guides, and does not charge for placing an establishment on the list, but claims the right to visit it on average once every 18 months to update the rating.
- Today we are starting a completely new chapter of Polish gastronomic tourism. The Michelin Guide brand and the recommendations contained therein are an invaluable magnet attracting cuisine lovers not only from Europe but also from all over the world. The establishment of this cooperation by the Polish Tourism Organisation is a huge reinforcement of our promotional activities, and in the scope of this type of travel, even their crowning achievement. The domestic culinary scene is one of our main leitmotifs of the campaigns we conduct. We can certainly admit that the combination of unforgettable tourist and taste experiences is an excellent combination. - claims President of the Polish Tourist Organization, Rafał Szmytke.
The cooperation of the Polish Tourism Organisation with the Michelin Guide brings a number of benefits. Development of infrastructure and transport, promotion of regional culinary traditions and the local food market, attracting investors in the hotel and catering industry, increasing the quality of services provided, the prestige of Polish cities around the world and interest from foreign tourists - these are just some of the many expected effects.
– In the difficult process of applying for awards, it is not without significance whether the local gastronomic scene is developed by the best masters in the profession. Warsaw undoubtedly has this advantage, as evidenced by the fact that the Warsaw Atelier Amaro, back in 2013, was the first Polish restaurant to be included in the guide. In communicating destinations, you need distinctive features, unique and unrepeatable features that allow destinations to stand out from dozens or even hundreds of others. Such as this is extremely important. We are also pleased that some of the awards went to member restaurants of our association, because it is with them that we will build an attractive offer and promote our city. - he explains president of the Warsaw Tourist Organization, Barbara Tutak.
– Today, Krakow is a culinary macrocosm. It is created by people who decided to pursue their professional dreams in the historical heart of Poland. They are doing it with fantastic results! This year's edition of the guide includes 18 restaurants from Krakow. It was the Krakow restaurant Bottiglieria 1881 that was the first in the country to receive two stars in the famous red Guide. This is the best confirmation that the gastronomic offer is an important asset for which it is worth visiting Krakow. - says Director of the Tourism Department of the Krakow City Hall, Elżbieta Kantor.
The inclusion of Warsaw, Krakow and Poznan in the promotion of the international publication is also an opportunity for the development of catering staff, who, due to constantly keeping up with current trends and visits from guests and inspectors demanding the highest taste experiences, will have to constantly expand their knowledge and improve their skills.
- This is a huge distinction for Poznań and our gastronomy. We are bursting with pride that Poznań restaurants, thanks to their excellent quality, join the elite group of those distinguished by the Guide. I am sure that thanks to this distinction, Poznań will become a destination for many tourists precisely because of its culinary offer, and the fact that the capital of Wielkopolska is becoming the "capital of Polish gastronomy" will no longer surprise anyone. – adds the president of the Poznań Local Tourist Organization, Jan Mazurczak.

Commentary by the Warsaw Tourist Organization
Gastronomy in Warsaw is created by top-class specialists and enthusiasts.
Looking at the quality and variety of dishes offered in selected Warsaw restaurants (and it is them, not the place or atmosphere that are assessed) we were certain that they would receive the most important culinary distinctions. For some time now we have also been following the rankings and awards given to Warsaw restaurateurs and this observation resulted in the same conclusion; distinctions and stars will be the only question for how many restaurants and in which category "MUST SEE", "WORTH VISITING", or "WORTH NOTING".
Even laymen in this matter do not need to be told that a place in the little red guide is a symbol of prestige for a restaurant, and for its guests an unforgettable culinary experience. A restaurant that receives a distinction becomes popular, and consequently eagerly visited. Therefore, such distinctions also have significance for the destination itself, and this pleases us the most. They show that the quality of services in a city like Warsaw is provided at the highest world level, while emphasizing its rich diversity. That is why Michelin stars and Bib Gourmand distinctions strengthen the brand of our cities and country. Thanks to them, Warsaw restaurateurs join the gastronomic elite, confirming the fact that the places where they serve their specialties are unique and unrepeatable.
We gain a new tool to communicate destinations. We will try to use it in the best possible way.
We wish all the distinguished Warsaw restaurateurs, for whom winning a star is often an important professional goal, to maintain it as long as possible.
Congratulations on the stars for Kraków, and especially Poznań, which joins the group of cities included in the guide for the first time.
City tourism in Poland is the biggest magnet attracting the attention of consumers, Michelin stars make its force of attraction even stronger.
